Abstract

Paraskevi Theofilou, Konstantina Florou, Maria Tsironi

The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of compliance of patients with hypertension to the medication given to them. For this purpose, a quantitative cross-sectional study was carried out in a sample of 73 elderly patients with hypertension. The Self-Efficacy For Appropriate Medication Use Scale (SEAMS) was used to assess medication com- pliance. The research findings showed that elderly patients with hypertension show a moderate level of compliance to medication. Years since diagnosis, age and years since initiation of treatment were significantly associated with the level of medication compliance in these patients. More studies are needed to illuminate the factors that influence the level of compliance with medication in elderly patients with hypertension.
