Standard Optical Colonoscopy

According to the most recent statistics from American Cancer Society (ACS), colorectal carcinoma ranks the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of death from cancer in the United States. It was estimated that more than 150,000 new cases will be diagnosed with more than 50,000 dying from the disease in 2008. Similar to other cancers, it is often diagnosed at advanced stage, after the patient has developed symptoms. Different from many cancers, colon cancer can be prevented by detection and removal of its precursor lesion, the adenomatous polyp.
