Scholarly Public Safety Journal
Public safety is the function of governments that protect citizens, people on their territory, organizations and institutions from threats to their well-being - and the prosperity of their communities. To meet the growing challenges of public safety, responsible public institutions and organizations can tap into their own intelligence and respond to potential threats. They optimize their internal structures, use synergies and balance their costs and benefits. Public security organizations include law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. Public safety issues, such as a municipality, county, state or federal jurisdiction, can include litter, inappropriate social behavior, drunkenness and other quality-of-life issues. Generally, organizations are involved in prevention and protection against events that could endanger the safety of the general public against dangers, injuries or significant material damage, such as crimes or disasters
