Power Generation.

Power generation, primarily fossil fuel-based, accounts for approximately one-quarter of total emissions of CO2, the primary contributor to global warming. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) provides the most detailed analyses and data developed to date on the sources and impacts of CO2 with respect to global warming. The full repercussions and impacts of increases in CO2 are not fully understood, but research is ongoing by IPCC and others.Technologies for sequestering CO2 and other strategies for reducing CO2 emissions as part of the power generation life cycle are being evaluated. As with other impacts of power generation, coal-fired power plants tend to be the largest source of CO2 emissions across all fuel sources. Consequently, power providers are exploring emerging technologies such as integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) with CO2 sequestration to reduce these emissions.
