Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), also referred to as dimethylpolysiloxane or dimethicone, belongs to a gaggle of polymeric organosilicon compounds that are commonly mentioned as silicones. PDMS is the most widely used silicon-based organic polymer, and is especially known for its unusual rheological (or flow) properties. PDMS is optically clear, and, generally, inert, non-toxic, and non-flammable. It is one among several sorts of silicone oil (polymerized siloxane).
