Neuromuscular medicine includes the diagnosis and treatment of abnormalities of the motor neuron, nerve root, peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junction, and muscle, including disorders that affect adults and children. This means that the ABPMR credentials and issues neuromuscular medicine subspecialty certificates for ABPMR diplomates, but the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) is responsible for examination development, administration, scoring, and analysis. The neuromuscular medicine, and physiatry specialists are key health care providers who work cooperatively with a multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated care for persons with Neuromuscular diseases (NMDs). The director or coordinator of the team must be aware of the potential issues specific to NMDs and be able to access the interventions that are the foundations for proper care in NMD. These include health maintenance and proper monitoring of disease progression and complications to provide anticipatory, preventive care and optimum management
