Microbial Forensics

Microbial Forensics describes the new and growing field of Microbial Forensics- the science that will help bring to justice criminals and terrorists who use biological material to cause harm. Microbial forensics is the discipline of applying scientific methods for the analysis of evidence from a bioterrorism attack, biocrime, hoax, or inadvertent release of a biological agent or toxin, with attribution as the ultimate goal. Forensic microbiology is the study of microorganisms in order to determine the path of an outbreak, the identity of a criminal or the origin of a particular strain of biological weapon or contagion. Murch explained that microbial forensics in the United States began in the 1990s with the formation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI's) Hazardous Materials Response Unit (HMRU). ...
