Homeless people registered at a specialist surgery who had a mixture of chronic physical illness, mental disease , plus alcohol and/or drug dependence – referred to as ‘trimorbidity’ – were fourfold more likely to possess hit or miss hospital admission. The study, conducted during a specialist homeless practice in Brighton, showed that the three significant risk factors were enduring psychological state problems and/or mental disorder , gastrointestinal disease and alcohol dependence.
