Dialysis and ESRD Life ExpectancyFor individuals aged 30 to 35 years, their life expectancy is 14 years for males and 13 years for females. Those aged between 70 and 75 years have a life expectancy of 4 years for both males and females.End-stage renal disease, also called end-stage kidney disease, occurs when chronic kidney disease — the gradual loss of kidney function — reaches an advanced state. Stage 5 CKD. A person with Stage 5 CKD has end stage renal disease (ESRD) with a GFR of 15 ml/min or less. At this advanced stage of kidney disease the kidneys have lost nearly all their ability to do their job effectively, and eventually dialysis or a kidney transplant is needed to live.In the United States the two leading causes of kidney failure, also called end stage kidney disease or ESRD, are diabetes (also called Type 2, or adult onset diabetes) and high blood pressure.
