Optics, Lazers, Photonics

Optics is the branch of physics that studies the behaviour and properties of light, including its interactions with matter and the construction of instruments that use or detect it. Optics usually describes the behaviour of visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light. A laser is a device that emits light through a process of optical amplification based on the stimulated emission of electromagnetic radiation. Photonics is the physical science of light waves. It deals with the science behind the generation, detection and manipulation of light. Light has a dual nature known as the wave-particle duality. That is to say that light has characteristics of both a continuous electromagnetic wave and a particle (photon).
