Biography
Dr. Kasenga is a graduate of Tumaini University, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College, Moshi, Tanzania and Umea University, Sweden. He obtained a Master’s degree in Public Health and a PhD in Public Health and Epidemiology respectively. He has a background in Clinical Medicine and has taken courses at higher diploma levels in Public Health from University of Transkei (UNITRA), Republic of South Africa, and African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) in Nairobi, Kenya.
Kasenga has worked in different places in and outside Malawi, and has held various positions, such as Licensed Medical Officer, HIV/AIDS Programme Officer, HIV/AIDS resource person in the International Department of Diakonhjemmet College, Oslo, Norway. He also managed an Integrated HIV/AIDS Prevention Programme for over 5 years. Further, he worked as a Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), Malawi Adventist University, Malamulo Campus for 5 years. Besides working as a Chief Executive Officer for Adventist Health Services (AHS), Malawi which oversees 16 Clinics across Malawi, Dr. Kasenga complements the overall vision of putting Adventist Health Services in Malawi as the best health care provider in the country and beyond. Additionally, while in Malawi, he holds an Honorary Clinical Faculty position under Loma Linda University, School of Public Health in the US. Dr. Kasenga mentors students of public health in their practicum sessions in Malawi. He brings with him his expertise in being a mentor for both local and international students, manages a sanitary pad making project to keep girls in school, a peer reviewer for several scientific papers, research with over 10 publications, edited several text books on HIV/AIDS related issues including communicable and non-communicable diseases. Based on his editorial work, he earned an accolade named ‘Academic Editor’. Dr. Kasenga has special interest on HIV/AIDS related issues focusing on Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT). Further, he promotes the spirit of openness, transparency and accountability for both academic and non-academic communities.
